This was bound to happen. They have been talking about this for a few years now, and now have finally decided to go along with it. The dreaded Charging Restricted area in the paint. However, for some odd reason, there will not be a line like there is in the NBA. Why? Maybe because the NCAA doesn't want to spend the money on it. Pretty stupid. According to this article, I guess you can blame the old Dookies on this rule change. It appears that Duke and Coach are crying about this rule change because they always stood in the paint, under the basket, and flopped. Trust me, I have seen this happen myself, they did flop...more than any other team, especially inside of the "Barn" also known as Cameron Indoor Wannabe Stadium.
Anyway, getting back to the point. I hate this rule. It's not fair that you must literally move if you happen to be under the basket if someone comes. If I am there before you are, that's just tough shit. I never liked this rule and never will.
John Clougherty, which is the ACC coordinator of men’s basketball officiating, also former official, one of the best there ever was, has also been looking at old tapes. He has noticed that players abuse the 3 second rule. Officials do not call this that often in College so I wouldn't be surprised if they make that call more often this year.
So, first it's the half circle in the paint which isn't there, which will lead to confusion for the players and refs. Then, they may come up with Defensive 3 seconds. They are slowly making the College Game into the NBA. This is not good.
